SHANGHAI, Oct 28 (SMM) - In recent years, China’s review and approval of aluminium capacity quotas have become increasingly strict, and new projects without capacity quotas are strictly prohibited from being put into operation. This has driven smelters to seek capacity quotas. This year, some smelters have put their new projects into operation through buying capacity quotas from other smelters or obtaining quotas through internal channels. Recently, Shanxi Zhongrun has released its capacity replacement project (65,000 mt/year), which is scheduled to be commissioned in December this year. After taking into account projects that have been commissioned or are currently being commissioned, a combined 228,000 mt/year of capacity will have been commissioned this year through capacity replacement.
